22 Feb Playing Across Papers. Azucena Vieites
Playing Across Papers.
Sala Alcalá 31. Madrid (2020-2021). November 26, 2020 – January 17, 2021. (Catalog).
Through simple artistic languages such as drawing, collage or silk-screen printing and inexpensive materials such as photocopies or cardboard, contemporary visual culture emerges in the work of Azucena Vieites. In her work there resonate ways of doing Dadaism, punk, music, DIY culture – Do It Yourself (do it yourself-do it yourself) and feminist thought. Encouraged by the message of the Riot Grrrls movement: “if you don’t like what’s around you, change it, do it yourself”, her style is direct, fragmentary and horizontal. Both when she superimposes cut-out papers on cardboard and when she arranges drawings, texts and serigraphs on the wall, she uses language and transmits knowledge through other modes of communication.
