What we are

PREKARIART is a research group composed of research staff assigned to the University of the Basque Country (UPV / EHU), the University of Deusto, the University of Salamanca and the National Distance Education University (UNED), as well as by artists without academic affiliation.

The team is led by Concepción Elorza Ibáñez de Gauna and the project “Multidisciplinary study of the precarious condition of artists and contemporary art” is funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. MINECOHAR2016-77767-R (AEI FEDER / UE) of the call for R + D + I Projects corresponding to the State Research, Development and Innovation Program aimed at the Challenges of the Company (2016).

PREKARIART is a research group in which the way of understanding precariousness in artistic practice is explored, both in its symbolic and material meaning, deepening in its forms of management. That is, how precariousness is experienced in artistic practice and how resources, resistances and ways of life are built around precariousness or precariousness. PREKARIART analyzes the meanings of precariousness in the specific production of groups or artists that thematize it.
