Using drawing and collage as the main working tools, Azucena Vieites (Hernani, 1967) carries out in her work a process of iconographic appropriation and resignification of materials and references that are linked to contemporary cultural imagery.
Starting and through this visual reworking exercise, Vieites explores the expressive potentialities of non-linear forms of narration and knowledge production, while posing a critical reflection on issues such as the conception of aesthetic creation as a procedural work and always linked to a specific social and economic context or the need to generate discursive strategies that contribute to breaking with the binary logic that still survives in much of today’s cultural representations.
